Perma Links for Preserving Online Sources

This guide is a resource for using Perma.cc to create archival links and preserve online sources.

Can I Delete a Perma Link?

A Perma link can be deleted within 24 hours of its creation. After 24 hours, the link is permanently archived and at that point can no longer be deleted.

Can I Annotate a Perma Link?

Clicking on a Perma link in your dashboard will expand the entry to display additional information fields. Here you can add notes to your link, move it to a different folder, and change its display title or description. Notes can only be viewed by you and your organization.

How Many Links Can I Create?

The Legal Research Center is a Perma.cc partner library. This means that, as a USD School of Law affiliated user, you are able to create unlimited links.

Accounts not affiliated with a partner library or organization may create up to 10 Perma links per month in a Personal Links folder.

Why Can't Others See My Perma Link?

Be aware that some websites will allow you to archive a link via Perma for your own research and referencing, but will not allow others outside of your account to view your link. This can include databases or news sources that operate behind a paywall. If this is the situation with your archived URL, you will see the following message when you access your Perma link:

This is a signal to you that others trying to access the same link will see the following:
