The LRC's DEIA Committee is excited to offer a forum to continue the conversation started at our Integrating Doctrine and Diversity event in April 2022. In partnership with the Center for Educational Excellence and Law Student Affairs, we will be hosting Faculty Learning Circles once per month from September to November and February to April. These events will be hosted on different days of the week to account for different teaching schedules. All USD Law instructors are welcome to join us for donuts, coffee, and conversation in the Faculty Reading Room. Please suggest topics for future months!
September’s Faculty Learning Circle will be on the topic of casebook bias. We recommend reading Casebooks, Bias, and Information Literacy, which provides some background on the prevalence of bias in casebook editing. We will be discussing what the presence of bias and a lack of diversity in casebooks means for our students and what instructors can do in the face of these issues.
