Law Alumni and LRC Visitor Library Accounts

How-to guide and information for University of San Diego (USD) law alumni who want to apply for a library card and borrow circulating items from the Legal Research Center (LRC).

Law Alumni and LRC Visitor Library Access

California Bar members with offices in San Diego county and all USD law alumni may borrow circulating items from the LRC. Recent USD law graduates retain regular library privileges and access to the library for 90 days after graduation. For more information on access and services for recent graduates, please see our Prepare to Practice: Tips for 3Ls & Recent Grads guide.

Request a Law Alumni/LRC Visitor Library Account

Fill out our online form to Request a Law Alumni/LRC Visitor Library Account.

When your request has been processed, we will send you an email with instructions for setting up your account and requesting books.

Circulation Policies

As a USD law alumni or LRC Visitor, you may borrow up to five books at any one time. Loan periods are two weeks with two renewals of two weeks each. Fines are $1 a day for overdue items. Lost or items which are not returned promptly will be billed $130 ($100 replacement fee plus $30 non-refundable billing fee).

To renew, log into your library account online. If you have any problems or questions about renewals, please contact the circulation desk at (619) 260-4542 or lrccirc@sandiego.edu.

San Diego Circuit Information

USD law alumni and LRC Visitors do not have the ability to request items from the San Diego Circuit using their LRC Library Account. Patrons with library cards from San Diego Public Library, San Diego County Library, UCSD, and SDSU may request LRC materials be delivered to a branch location of that library.

Alumni Access to HeinOnline, JSTOR, and Other Databases

The LRC and Copley Library offer off-campus alumni access to HeinOnline, JSTOR, and some other databases to registered alumni. To access these databases, you will have to log into the Torero Network. For help registering for a Torero Network account, please contact the Alumni Association. Once logged into the Torero Network, navigate to the Library Benefits page to find access to the alumni databases.

Many of the LRC's databases can also be accessed by alumni on-campus using our public computers or a laptop connected to USD's wifi.
