The librarians at the LRC have created research guides that can help you decipher a case citation, figure out how to use the ALRs, and use the other research tools that you'll be using to complete your Lawyering Skills assignments.

Format of a Legal Paper

There are several ways to draft a legal brief in law school depending on who is teaching legal writing.  However, the most well known method of drafting a legal brief is IRAC.  IRAC follows the format of first discussing the issue, the rule governing the issue, then applying the rule to your facts, and then finally your conclusion.  However, IRAC is not the only method nor necessarily the best method to draft a legal brief.

One of the most important resources for legal writing is the bluebook.  The bluebook allows you to correctly reference in legal writing.  However, it can be initially difficult to use the bluebook correctly and you must be careful to ensure that you are reading the right section.
